Seth “Dexter” Denson is the Sergeant at Arms of the Brazen Bulls MC. As a former Marine Raider, the skills he honed in war are useful in the club’s battles as well—and the things he does wearing the Bulls patch ride him just as hard as what he did wearing desert camo.
Those aren’t his only demons. From childhood, Dex has struggled every day to control the darkness inside him. He decided a long time ago that he was too dark and damaged to love.
That hasn’t stopped him from wanting Kelsey Helm, eldest daughter of Maverick, the Bulls’ VP—but Kelsey is sweet and good, unsullied by the club’s grimy dealings. If there’s one woman who deserves someone better than a lost cause like him, it’s her.
Her father agrees. Emphatically.
Kelsey has liked Dex since the first time he brought one of his outcast dogs to the clinic where she works as a veterinarian. Watching him love and care for animals the rest of the world gave up on, she knows he’s much more than the club’s most violent patch. It’s not only animals; Dex never hesitates to step up and help those who need it—even at the risk of his own life.
Dex sees himself as a killer, her father sees him as a “psycho,” but Kelsey sees a hero.
Before they can find their way together, they both need to learn trust—in each other and in themselves.
Rescue works both ways.

Loved it!
I got a wonderful surprise when Rescue appeared in my library, having totally forgotten I had pre-ordered it! To get the most out of this story, I would recommend reading
Slam before starting Rescue. It’s not essential, but I wanted to revisit the scene in Slam where Jenny let Mav meet his daughter Kelsey for the first time. The desire to do so was so strong that before I could start on this review, I indulged and read through all the chapters in Slam that focused on Jenny and Mav getting together. I needed to experience Mav’s love for his daughter Kelsey to appreciate his struggle giving his blessings to Dex to be with her.

Dex had lots of reasons as to why being with Kelsey was not a good idea. She’s Mav’s 27 year old daughter, that’s a lot younger than him and a hell of a lot sweeter. Points Dex totally gets but, just to make sure that he does, Mav made sure his feelings on Dex going anywhere near Kelsey were well conveyed!

What I love about Susan Fanetti’s books is the way emotions are conveyed. Dex and Kelsey’s story was no exception and stood out as one of the reasons I connected with them both as characters. Even the sex scenes were depicted with emotion rather than reliant solely on the physical descriptions. Nothing was rushed so when the spark finally ignited I smirked, highlighting the text and noting – ‘Hello, we have movement at the station!’.

Dex’s affinity with animals in need was in deep contrast with his ‘day job’. I’m not a pet crazy kind of person, but even I was swept up in Dex’s saintly care for his dogs. I can only imagine how much dog lovers are going to lap up this side of Dex’s character.

Rescue had all the feels, including the unexpected warm and fuzzy flurries I experienced with my kind of romance. It wasn’t without the usual MC darkness though, with one scene in particular revealing more gory details than I bargained for. Thankfully the scene was in contrast to the rest of the story which was not too dark and not too sweet – it was ‘just right’.

If you hadn’t guessed by now, I really enjoyed this latest addition to the Birthright series. A memorable stand alone romance set within the familiar Brazen Bulls MC with the added bonus of a much loved adopted canine family. The ending left me with a big goofy smile and eager for the next book in the Birthright series!
