After a hellish month of searching, Immortal warrior Jax and his brethren, the Guardians of the Realms, are nowhere near finding the sleeping God who was stolen by their enemy. As if that isn't problem enough, after millennia, other Guardians are dropping like flies to the mating frenzy. Jax never dreamed he could be next. After all, he’s too flawed, his sexual appetite too insatiable to ever be completely fulfilled by one being. Could a lone female even handle his needs let alone quench his never ending desire?

Ileana lives a solitary life in the shadows, a ghost thirsting for vengeance. A warrior Ailouros, half cat, whose sheer existence has been kept secret by a special ability no one can know exists, she is closed off and trusts no one. After thousands of years spent in near isolation while hunting her prey, she has finally found a clue leading to the location of her enemy. Revenge is at hand.

When a fantastically hot Guardian unknowingly puts himself in the middle of a deadly intrigue, nearly ruining her careful plans, Ileana is forced to make a choice. Her one chance at finding vengeance will hinge on hurling them both into piercing ecstasy.

Warning: This book is intended for an adult audience. There are dirty talking Guardians with bad language, some violence, and explicit scenes hot enough to give you cat scratch fever.

This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

By SpiceI’ve absolutely enjoyed the four preceding books in the Guardians of the Realms Series. Each book has been action packed and scorching hot, with lots of emotion to spice things up. Piercing Ecstasy had the action I crave and while I got to spend time with some of my favorite characters, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I expected to.

My main problem was with Ileana. Her story was heartbreaking, but then so are everyone else’s because of what the Gods had reigned down upon them. Being completely driven by revenge, she was a wild card and unbelievably obnoxious. Halfway through the book I thought she was completely obsessed, melodramatic, and more than a bit selfish. I get why she wanted revenge, but I expected more character growth by that point. She eventually started to see the light of day, but it ended up being way too late for me.

One spot of good news is I really liked Jax, even if I didn’t like his mate. They did have scads of off the charts chemistry because of the mating heat but the emotion just wasn’t there for me. That’s not to say this wasn’t hot, it was, it was just missing that special something to take the sex to the next level.

What really saved the book was everything else that was going on beyond Jax and Ileana’s relationship. Mia and her heartbreaking obsession with Jax needed to be dealt with, especially now that his mate has been found. Brianne and Vane are still knocked out and fighting the effects of their accidental yet impossible mating. The thought of losing them both has all the Guardians worried. But the worst of all is there is still a missing sleeping God and Elizabeth is ramping up her efforts to find a way to awaken him which would be a disaster for both realms.

I’m completely invested in the Guardians and the ongoing story arc so one character not doing it for me is in no way shape or form going to slow me down on this series. Bastian is up next and I can’t wait to see what is in store for him.

Rating: 3.5 Can’t Wait for What’s Next Stars.
