The heart has a mission of its own… Wounded in more ways than one, Navy SEAL Jax Taylor only understands short-term commitments. And when he walks into the Trident Bar in Virginia Beach, beautiful bartender Peri Halstead sizes him up right away. But that doesn’t stop her from teasing him with her sultry sarcasm, or taking him home—after she finds him passed out cold in the parking lot… Soon enough, Jax is recovering at Peri’s in return for doing some handyman work, and the sexy sparks are flying—in almost every room in the house.
Peri tells herself she deserves some fun, especially now that she’s a single mom with a cheating ex to deal with. But when it’s time for her and Jax to go their separate ways, the miles between them—and the danger that’s about to touch both their lives—has them wondering if Jax can learn to love more than the mission…
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
O.M.G. where to begin?
Ok, basics: Jax is our H, a hunky SEAL. Peri is the divorced (from a Navy man) mother of a 15 year old girl and co-owner of a bar catering to military guys. They hook up, and after a day they are falling in love. They spend time together but they live on different coasts. Things happen and they go back and forth from one side of the country to the other. Finally they end up together.
I’m gonna be blunt here and say that I feel the writing could use some polishing. I liked the general story line but the execution left me underwhelmed.
In other words, it was so corny I could make a ton of polenta out of it.
Holy shit. If he’s body wasn’t impressive enough, what he packed under his zipper resembled a freakin’ Desert Eagle, the most powerful gun in the world.
He stood at the door with his heart wedged in his esophagus.
He stared as she freed his cock, which jerked to attention like a well-trained warrior. And oh, hadn’t it been. Now she’d train his willing beast to be loyal to her.
The cheating ex-husband thing? Never developed. The teen’s attitude? Ridiculous and with no apparent reason. Well, this and the “sensual tsunami” pretty much sealed the deal for me.
Well, there’s one thing I was left wondering about:
Jax latched onto her pert nipple. Rolled it with his tongue. Felt her sexy exhale against his ear.
Is that even physically possible?
