He's sworn off all women...
When he lost the girl he loved, Dr. Jackson DeMatteo shut down his heart and became the kind of perfectionist surgeon that alienated him from the residents. Now Jackson has a very coveted promotion dangling before him...but it comes with a price. Working with adorably geeky first-year resident Darla Morales is definitely going to cost him. Big time.
She's just what the doctor ordered...
Completing her trauma residency demands confidence and Darla, who's already pretty high on the nerd scale, is definitely not confident. Worse still, she's forced to work with Doctor Dreamy, who makes her even more nervous and defensive. Darla needs to focus on the work and not his bedroom eyes if she ever hopes to become a trauma surgeon.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This was a quick and lovely a la Grey’s Anatomy story. Resident Darla is set on getting into trauma medicine and is paired with hunky Dr. Ice…I mean Jackson DeMatteo, who’s known for being strict and cold, as her advisor/attending physician.
They share a strong attraction and in the end, can’t really keep their hands off each other. Both characters had some issues to resolve, Jackson had lost a girlfriend in the past who had a mental health issue and he feels responsible for it, shutting out anyone and everyone who could matter to him.
Darla has a heart condition and a chip on her shoulder the size of a polar iceberg which leads her to do things she doesn’t really want to do just to prove that she can… like trauma medicine.
I liked this story if you don’t mind the medical talk, which in truth wasn’t that bad. I did find my feelings towards their relationship contradictory. On one hand, I wanted them to be together, all that forbidden love and being right for each other… on the other, it was kind of selfish on both their parts mainly because of their resident-advisor relationship. Jackson could lose his job (which Darla didn’t seem to care about too much) and then Darla could be transferred to another hospital… which Jackson was kind of secretly and very deeply hidden hoping for so they could be together in the open.
Well, I won’t tell you how things work out, because what would be the fun of that? But I will tell you that I enjoyed How to Save a Surgeon very much, and I will be looking up for more stories by this author.
