Oh no! It’s that time of the year again!
This is what happens when you have list-loving friends like Lily and Spice. They find any excuse to make lists… and the top ten best books of the year is one of their favorites…
And because I just can’t get away with playing possum and tricking the girls into forgetting about asking me to make my top ten…
Here’s the list of the best books I read (for the first time, I’m not counting re-reads) during 2019. I didn’t get as much reading time as one would like (aka, all the time)…
…and I certainly felt like sometimes I was on a “meh” book streak, but I did manage to find some wonderful gems. Thus, in no particular order:
Sparkles’ Top Ten…ish

Perfectly Adequate by Jewel E. Ann
This one took me completely by surprise in the most pleasing way. I loved absolutely everything about this story and its’ quirky weirdness. Jewel E. Ann has wowed me time and again with her original and unique stories.
Bynne Asher just does it for me. A single-mom romance? pfft… I didn’t even get put off by it being a second-chance love.
Shards of Frost & Untamed Delights by Suzanne Wright
The Phoenix and Mercury Packs are one of my all-time favorites shifter series. These two are so intertwined they should be read together for maximum enjoyment. Action, humor, hunky alpha males and quirky, kick-ass females.
Hate Notes by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward
This romance took an unexpected turn at the halfway mark that made me love the story so much more. A bit emotional, sweet and sexy I totally loved this relationship-driven love tale.
Beard With Me & Beard Necessities by Penny Reid
These two books go together like peanut butter and jelly… Like guacamole and crackers… Like a new book by your favorite author and a long weekend… Anyway, yes. Read these books (actually all of the Winston Brothers series).
Coldest Fire by Juliette Cross
Angels, demons, demons turned back into angels, angels aligning with demons, witches, good versus evil and the fate of humanity in a post-apocalyptic world. A fantastic series by Ms. Cross full of action, heat and love.
Bynne Asher just does it for me– oh wait, did I say this already??? Anyway, more action, suspense and heat than you’d know what to do with. AMAZING READ.
This was a much-awaited read at Edgy households. Ms. Wright didn’t disappoint in the romance between Devon and Tanner, and there were some really big shoes to fill (eg. Knox and Harper’s). This is a world I love and never cease visiting.
Laws of Physics Trilogy – Motion, Space and Time – by Penny Reid
Ms. Reid has a way of writing that just gets to me. Proved by the fact that I willingly read a trilogy as it was coming out, meaning I had to wait between books after being left hanging from a cliffy ending. IMHO nothing says I love an author more than willingly submitting to this.
Styx blew me away but Stoned cemented the fact that this new world by Ms. Frost filled with angels, demons, magicks and all the improprieties I love from her is fabulous. Funny, sexy, full of action and suspense, this series just keeps getting better.
Special Mention (of books I also loved and because loopholes people)
Until the Tequila by Brynne Asher & Until Mayhem by Layla Frost (Novellas in Aurora Rose Reynolds’ Happily Ever Alpha world)
Insta-love a la BOOM by the hands of these too. You don’t want to miss them.
Elements of Chemistry Trilogy – Attraction, Heat and Capture – by Penny Reid
I don’t normally venture into NA because I usually lose my mind at the maturity level of the characters and their shenanigans. Then again, Ms. Reid’s nerdish and weird characters make me fall for them no matter their age (almost no NA feel to this)
The Space Between by Kate Canterbary
This was my first book by Kate Canterbury and I’m so happy I found a new-to-me author to love! The Space Between was great fun, easy to read, sweet, hot and sexy. Do you know how many books I’ve added to my TBR thanks to this?
The Vessel Trilogy by Juliette Cross
I haven’t had the chance to review these yet (but it’s in the schedule). This is the series where the Dominion series spins off from. It starts off with a bit of NA feel to it with the h just turning 21 but along the way her growth is spectacular and I ended up absolutely loving her. Action galore, suspense, intrigue, hot chemistry and the world’s fate left on the hands of a few.
