January 4, 2019 Book Review 0

By SpiceLike the year before it, 2018 was a bit tough to get through at times. That’s not to say there weren’t some amazing highlights, like my trip to Nashville where I attended my first signing. Another highlight was the awesome buddy reads we had here at Edgy that sparked off some of the most interesting discussions I think we’ve ever had. My favorite discussion was when we read Wild Like the Wind. If you haven’t checked that review out, you really should.

Tough year or not, I did manage to find some great books thanks to some of my favorite go to authors. If I could, I’d give each of the authors here huge hugs for giving me the escape I so desperately needed when the going got tough. So if you’re on the list, consider yourself hugged.

Surprisingly, three of my top books are crossover books from Aurora Rose Reynolds Happily Ever After Kindle World. I was lucky enough to beta read two of them and even though I never rate my beta reads, they did end up being favorites of mine for the year so I included them.

For 2019, I’ll be slowing down on my ARC reading and focussing on finishing up my very own WIP. That doesn’t mean I’m going to stop reading. For me, reading is an escape I yearn for and as essential as breathing. While I’ll still be doing reviews, I’m hoping to get in more blog posts about reading, some Top Tens and I’m toying with the idea of author interviews.

I have high hopes for 2019 but I know, whatever the year brings, I’ll have Lily and Sparkles by my side cheering me on and keeping me grounded as well as some great reads to distract me.

Now for my Top Ten of 2018:

Embers by Suzanne WrightEmbers by Suzanne Wright

Knox Thorne is my hands down most favorite paranormal book boyfriend of all time and Harper is pretty freaking awesome herself. This is the fourth book in the Dark In You Series and the chemistry between them is still smoking hot and the action, suspense and mystery still had me on the edge of my seat. Making this even better is the fact I got to buddy read it with Sparkles. Score!

Echoes of Fire by Suzanne WrightEchoes of Fire by Suzanne Wright

I gave Echoes of Fire “5 Walking, Talking, Stone-Cold Badass stars” because Bracken blew me away. Dark, sexy, full of action plus with some fun woven in, I loved every word of this story.

Planet Dragos by Thea HarrisonPlanet Dragos by Thea Harrison

Planet Dragos is the last book from Dragos and Pia’s POV in the Elder Races universe which broke my heart a little. See, Dragos is the dragon by which I judge all other dragons. He is just that freaking amazing. Sweet, sexy, and suspenseful, I enjoyed every bit of the story and can’t wait to see what Ms. Harrison has in store for her Elder Races series.

Rock Chick Reborn by Kristen AshleyRock Chick Reborn by Kristen Ashley

Rock Chick Reborn Quote

Ms. Ashley gives us the best surprises! I always wanted Shirleen to get an alpha of her very own, and boy did she get a good one. Moses was perfect for our Shirleen and I couldn’t have envisioned a better story for her. All hands were on deck to make sure she got what she deserved in this emotional story that I absolutely devoured.

Until Susan by C.P. SmithUntil Susan by CP Smith

CP Smith blew me away with her crossover book featuring James and Susan Mayson from Aurora Rose Reynolds’ Until Series. Boom is exactly the right word to describe how I felt when introduced to the drop dead sexy James. He proved without a doubt those Mayson boys didn’t fall far from the sexy alphahole tree.

Hot and Badgered by Shelly LaurenstonHot and Badgered by Shelly Laurenston

I waited for this book for freaking ever and it was totally worth the wait. This was one fun-filled, action packed, hilariously violent crazy train, and I loved every bit of it!

Until Nox by Layla FrostUntil Nox by Layla Frost

I think I beta read Nox in one sitting which says a lot. I got so engrossed in the story I could not put him…I mean it down. He was alpha sweet, mysterious, and worked for me in every possible way especially his fookin’ accent that I heard in my head the entire time I read the story. Gus was pretty damn funny too.

Burn Bright by Patricia BriggsBurn Bright by Patricia Briggs

It’s been awhile since I devoured Ms. Briggs Mercy Thompson books. I not only got behind on that series, I got behind on the spinoff Alpha and Omega series featuring Charles Cornick and his mate, Anna. Just like I remembered with the other books, this was full of action, suspense, a bit of grit, and it was just as steamy and chock full of chemistry as I expected. You can bet I’ll be catching back up on the ones I missed in between.

Blaze Erupting by Rebecca Zanetti

Blaze Erupting was one hell of a good read. It’s a standalone in Ms. Zanetti’s post-apocalyptic world full of uber sexy alphaholes and the women strong enough to not only survive in that world but also go toe to toe with their men.  This little novella packs a lot of punch so be prepared for a thrill ride full of action and sexy, emotion filled chemistry that will knock your socks off.

Until Avery by Brynne AsherUntil Avery by Brynne Asher

This was the second book in the list that I beta read and I love it just as much today as I did when I read it the first time (No, really. I just reread it). Avery is just super sweet which usually isn’t my thing, but she’s also throwing everything on the line to fulfill her dreams. I loved that about her! As for Link, he is just the kind of overprotective, bossy, sexy, alphahole that I can never resist. With just a bit of action and lots of sexy shenanigans, I freaking adored this story.
