Face of an angel.
Body of a god.
And a mouth so dirty he could make the devil blush…
Fix Marcosa’s time can be bought with money, but he isn’t selling sex. Murderers, rapists, criminals: if you’re on the wrong side of Fix’s moral code, you’re in trouble. The kind of trouble that winds up getting you killed. As a hitman for hire, Fix is no stranger to violence. He’s merciless. Relentless. A true savage, down to the roots of his very soul. You can beg. You can plead. You can pray, but it won’t do you any good. Once the tall, dark stranger arrives at your doorstep, it’s already too late to repent.
Sera Lafferty’s no stranger to heartbreak. With an abusive father and a dependant sister, her life has been one of sacrifice and compromise. As soon as she sets eyes on Felix ‘Fix’ Marcosa, she recognizes the darkness in him and makes a vow: she will not get involved. But trapped inside a motel room with the sexiest man to ever walk the earth? Throw in some tequila and the storm to end all storms, and Sera finds herself worshipping at the altar of Marcosa.
She knows she made a mistake.
She knows she needs to run.
But when she witnesses the assassin at work first hand, she knows it’s far too late. Thrown into the back of his sleek black ride, Sera finds herself trapped, and in more way than one. Fix is deadly. He’s demanding, he’s dirty, and he’s determined to claim her for his own.

The promise of an anti-hero from Callie Hart was all the incentive I needed to get Dirty!
Stranded on her way to attend her sister Amy’s wedding, Sera finds herself in a battle of wills between her and Felix. Sera Lafferty is the conduit to Felix Marcosa with their first meeting occurring in the midst of a personal crisis for Sera. There’s a lot I won’t refer to in my review of Dirty, preferring to focus on the book ride I went on rather than the intricacies of the plot.
Having reached the end of the book, I’m not sure who won their initial battle but I do know they had a hell of a time getting to know each other. What evolves within this first book is the similarities two apparently different people share. Sharing a desire for justice underpinned by compassion counterbalanced with a need to be in control, Sera and Felix find themselves on equal footing.
Well most of the time, with neither willing to drop their guard nor retreat, each rebuttal takes the recipient a second or two to regain their control. At times the need to shock or up the ante led to a behaviour I found OTT. Fortunately such moments in general worked well and took the steam in the story to another level all together. Occasionally though, I wished they had held back and not gone as far as they did.
They get down and dirty early on in the story and the catalyst for doing so was obvious as soon as the scene was set. The dialog leading up to the steamy scene was unexpected and worked well. Told through alternate PoV, the story flows effortlessly without repetition and provides a well-rounded insight to the building connection between Sera and Felix aka Fix.
I loved the fast paced writing and the suspenseful plot growth. I had a continuous 5 star vibe building right up until they suddenly became cozy with each other. It was at this point that the leading man started to get deep and meaningful. I had to check which PoV the chapter was in because Felix didn’t sound like the man he was previously.
The change in pace revealed another side to Felix he had held back and I have to admit I preferred the broody, brutally honest man we were first introduced to. Up until this point I had been obsessively turning pages. It was way after midnight and it was a struggle to stop reading. After being coerced to put my Kindle down, the payoff was I had the final 10% to look forward to the next afternoon.
Diving back into the story, my jaw dropped when I got to the final chapter. Yes, it’s a cliffy, but the details didn’t leave me hanging but rather wondering how this twist would play out in the next book. Of course I wanted more and I am beyond eager to continue with the series. If you enjoyed Callie’s other suspense based books, Dirty will reel you in with its similar style while bringing to life distinctively new characters.
4 Life’s short, enjoy it! Stars
