Re-released in a second edition with updates.
Shattered by the loss of his wife, Callum Reed is a man surrounded by rules designed to protect him. He rebuilds his life with careful discipline, but can't deny what he feels when he meets the lovely Gabrielle Sullivan. She's everything he wants in a woman, but he views all relationships as contractual. Despite her misgivings, Gaby signs his contract and becomes his perfect partner. Until the night she breaks his cardinal rule.
After three years of perfect obedience, Gaby declares she wants love and she isn't settling for less. Love isn't in their contract, so Cal lets her go. But Gaby has a secret reason for leaving. When Cal discovers the truth, nothing will stop him from following her.
On a secluded island paradise, Callum will do anything to prove he's the perfect husband for his defiant love.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
If you need a straight up emotion fueled romance, this is the book for you. This is a sweet second chance at love story about two people who really botched it the first go round. Prepare for some angst as Away From Me hits every one of the big emotions: heartbreak, anger, fear, loss, and love.
Broken and seriously scarred from his past, Callum has decided to never fall in love again. His solution was to hide behind a contract with his submissive. In an effort to make him grow feelings for her, Gaby became his perfect sub. Eventually, when he wouldn’t acknowledge his love for her, she left with a heartbreaking secret.
I really wish we had a front row seat to what Gaby endured during the time she was away from Cal, but instead, the story picks up again months later when Callum, still in the dark about her situation, acted like a complete ass only to find out he completely misjudged things. By the time he comes to his senses, she’s gone. The good news is once he pulled his head out of his posterior he was hot on her trail.
These two are the perfect example of how communication is key in any relationship, even more so in a dom/sub situation. You can be overflowing with love with someone, but if you aren’t honest with each other from the start about your wants and needs it’s going to end up in heartbreak for both.
I mentioned that Cal was broken and scarred and this was no exaggeration. As the details of what happened to him were revealed, my heart bled for him. That doesn’t mean I thought he did quite enough groveling though. Being a perfectionist, when he set out to be a jerk, he excelled at it and I wanted a bit more recompense for Gaby.
Gaby had a lot of growing up to do and unfortunately for her she had to do it quickly. She overcame her obstacles and ended up doing well for herself, but again I wish we would have been there for it as the character growth she underwent was astounding. One thing showcasing this was the fact that she owned up to her part in their failed relationship instead of throwing all the blame on Cal.
As much as I love my action-packed books, Away From Me had me captivated with all the feels so I didn’t really miss the lack of suspense…well not too much. Sweet, sexy, and chock full of emotion, this would be the perfect read for when you have a book hangover.
