I like my sex dirty and disposable. I'm not into commitment or chicks who want more than one night. My brothers and club come first, second and last. Until she walks into my life. Classy, rich and so out of my league it's crazy. A week together should get her out of my system, but this good girl is so bad when we're all alone and I can't get enough of her. I don't do forever, but she's hooked me so bad I don't ever want to let her go. Except there's no way a princess can live in my world and I sure as hell won't live in hers...
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I was perusing my emails as I do each day and I came across details of Christina Phillips’ Vikings Bastards MC Series. Hooked had all the details that lead to me 1-clicking faster than is frugal for my book budget! Fortunately, the email led me to Christina’s web page where I could sample the first chapter. That teaser had me hook, line and sinker! Before I knew it, I had devoured this book and thinking “What book budget?” as I downloaded the next one, minutes after it went live.
“Oh my,” she gasps, like she’s in a daytime soap, and I laugh before I can stop myself. She blinks at me and crosses her ankles. “I don’t think this is hygienic”
For a quick read, (my second one in less than a week) I found it chock full of story. Grace, the lady (and I do mean lady in every sense of the word) finds herself in a bind when her car stalls in a storm. Add to that her phone is out of juice, so she has no choice but to step out into the rain and see if she can find a phone to call for roadside assistance. She walks into a bar, not the most eloquent of establishments but she is desperate to make a call to get back on the road again.
Zach spots her within seconds of her reaching the bar and offers her his assistance. He thinks he is in for an easy lay. She thinks he thinks he’s in for an easy lay. To cut a short story even shorter, I’m going to leave the rest of that scenario to your imagination 😉 What I want to add before your eyeballs threaten to roll is that what happens next is neither easy nor predictable for either of them. Grace has no idea who or what Zach is, and has no idea that she has walked into a bar frequented by the Viking Bastards MC. To her, it just looks like it attracts Neanderthals and she really isn’t in the mood for their metaphorical chest thumping.
“What you see is what you get with me.” Hmm,” she says as though she doesn’t believe a word.
“Big, bad, tough guy on the outside. That’s okay, your secret’s safe with me.” I snort with laughter.
“No secret, Grace.” I like saying her name. “That’s me inside and out.”
“If you say so.”
For two people who have no intention of making commitments, they do a good job of proving otherwise. It is obvious to all around them that this woman has got Zach without having any clue of what she has stirred within this hardened man. In her mind, he’s good company in more ways than she imagined. He doesn’t do relationships, so he is more shocked than her. Not that they are in a relationship of course!
Between Grace’s eloquent (not toffee) comments and Zach’s unexpected reactions to her presence, I spent the entire time reading Hooked with a smile. It had so many aspects that I could relate to, whether it was the thrill of the moment or the astounded response to a situation. The banter was spontaneous, humorous and never felt juvenile or hyped up to set up a scene. This story could so easily have been a cheesy hook up, but it went beyond a raunchy read into a delectable adventure I am so excited I discovered.
Lily’s Rating; 4 Totally Worth It Stars
Hooked is a lovely, light and fun romance. I practically read it in one sitting, and it had me smiling from start to finish. Hooked is a great story, what it isn’t is a Biker romance. Ok, it is in the sense that Zach, the hero, is part of an MC, he wears a cut and there are small mentions of club associated life. But that’s the extent of it, there is no club business or action of any kind. Sorry, there’s definitely sexy action, and that is super-hot, just no other kind of action.
A classy chick, Grace, walks into a biker bar. Her car died in the middle of a storm at night and her phone was kaput too. After being the dutiful eldest daughter working in the family company and dating the family approved guy, she sees Zach and after his forward come-on just goes for it.
Zach the badass biker hunk is quite taken by the uppity redhead bombshell. And one hook up doesn’t seem to be enough to get her out of his system. When they start to spend more and more time together, will Grace walk away from her family’s expectations and do what (and who) she really wants for once? Will Zach’s carefree-biker persona get in the way of the best thing that ever happened to him besides his club?
As I said, Hooked was a great romance. It had sweet, it had steamy and some sexy hot. Zach was a typical biker dude used to plenty of easy women hanging on him. I really enjoyed how the author let us witness the gradual change to his feelings, or more accurately his gradual acknowledgment of said feelings. At times his conversations with himself were hilarious.
Grace I liked too, her eldest child syndrome (how she put it) did get a bit on my nerves, and a little more open communication with her family would have been best. I also loved how the author handled her feelings and the way she was always open about her lack of experience with Zach, making her quite refreshing in this regard.
Again, if you go in expecting a tough, action-packed Biker romance you will not find what you’re looking for. What I got was a really good, wonderful story that had me smiling from the start until the very end and left me with a happy glow. I’ll be eagerly waiting for the next in the series…. Although had there been an epilogue I would have been much more glowy.
