June Mayson and Evan Barrister’s whirlwind courtship resulted in a secret marriage right before he left for boot camp. Evan knows deep in his gut that June is too good for him, but after getting a taste of the beautiful life they can have together, he’s unwilling to let her go.
June promises to wait for him, knowing neither time or distance will ever change her feelings for Evan—that is until she’s served with divorce papers while he’s overseas and she’s forced to let him go.
Her marriage and divorce a well-kept secret, the last person June expects to run into when she moves back to her hometown is Evan. Angry over the past, she does everything within her power to ignore the pull she feels whenever he is near. But how can she ignore the pain she sees every time their eyes meet? How can she fight the need to soothe him even if she knows she’s liable to get hurt once again?
Is it possible for June and Evan to find their way back to each other again? Or will they be stopped by an outside force before they ever have a shot?
I like ARR’s book because they’re guaranteed feel-good, easy, quick fluffy reads and Until June fit this description to a T.
Evan was everything I expected from this author’s heroes, alpha, bossy, possessive and completely in love with the heroine. June was a sweet and sassy girl, she just didn’t have the best luck with guys. Her first love divorced her without so much as a word and then the guy she was seeing turned out to be way worse.
The story centers on June needing protection from a possible threat and Evan, who now works with her cousin, is one of the guys in charge of her security. Needless to say, their love was not the kind you can overcome and soon their feelings for each other resurface. Unfortunately, June’s broken heart won’t be so easy to mend, especially when she’d like to kick Evan in the shins with a pointed-toe shoe. In the end, she is unable to resist him and succumbs to him quite easily, but I can’t say I blame her, the guy is freaking hot!
“I’ll shower alone. I don’t want to get my hair wet,” I tell him, and his fingers flex between mine as his eyes move from my fair, down my body.
“Sorry, baby, but more than just your hair is gonna get wet.”
Evan has his own demons to fight, as the reason for his separation with June stemmed from his feeling unworthy. Luckily for me, Evan was not the type to overindulge in self-pity so this didn’t bother me that much… Especially when he came back completely set on winning her back.
“I have enough love for the both of us. Doesn’t matter if you love me back. I’m not giving you space or room. You’re mine, June. You have been for a long fucking time and I want what we could have had to start now.”
This paired with a couple of plot threads that weren’t developed as much as they could have been, left me with a bit of a feeling of dissatisfaction. Don’t get me wrong, Until June was hot, sexy, fun and sweet and I loved it and all the Mayson Families’ appearances.
