Cassie Cooper has never been the kind of girl noticed for her looks. But around billionaire Kirk Rochester, her best friend from college, Cassie wishes she could turn just one head—his. So when Kirk asks her to be his pretend girlfriend to thwart another woman's unwanted advances, Cassie embraces the opportunity to prove to him that she does have a feminine side.
Disillusioned by a rough marriage that had an even rougher end, Kirk values friendship more than romance. He’s always had a good thing going with Cassie. But he can’t ignore how sexy she is now playing the role of his girlfriend, and soon he’s fighting a dangerous attraction to her. Even though their time between the sheets is scorching hot, he refuses to take it beyond “friends with benefits.” He’s learned the hard way that loving someone is the first step to destroying his heart, and he won’t risk losing the best person in his life by falling in love with her.

Cassie struggled with her looks because she could never live up to her mom’s expectations and her little sister’s perfection. By the time she gets into college, she becomes one of the guys hiding behind baggy clothes, blue hair and facial piercings. There she meets Kirk, a billionaire heir, who also just wants to be one of the guys and they become best friends. All through college Cassie hides the fact that she has feelings for Kirk, but then he marries little Miss Perfect – her complete opposite – and she moves to Australia
Kirk’s marriage, from the beginning to its very sad ending, was far from what he hoped it to be. This left Kirk disillusioned in love and thinking the only relationship worth the work is friendship. Kirk knows he can always count on Cassie. For anything. So when a business deal comes with a pushy girl who can’t seem to take no for an answer; and he can’t be rude to her for fear of losing the deal with her father, he enlists Cassie to pretend to be his girlfriend. Now is the chance Cassie always wanted to make Kirk see her as a woman. But she never counted on Kirk fighting himself when he does notice how sexy a woman Cassie really is.
So basically, Best Friends With The Billionaire is about Cassie repeatedly trying to entice Kirk and giving up, and Kirk getting all hot for Cassie but fighting his feelings because he believes in friendship and not in romantic love. By this I mean there’s a lot of hot and cold going on… almost meriting a Katy Perry soundtrack.
As usual, when people don’t want to be straightforward about their feelings there’s a lot of misunderstandings and miscommunication going on. With fake girlfriends, fake ex-boyfriends, family drama, secrets and bottled feelings, this was a very entertaining story. While I can’t say I loved their main issues since they could have just… you know, talked like grownups, I did like them together. It took Kirk a long freakin’ time to get his head out of his ass but when he finally did, he did good.
Both Kirk and Cassie had issues to work through. Kirk needed to accept his past and what it meant. Cassie’s confidence issues were a bit harder for me to get behind. Luckily these moments were mainly when she was with her mother so it wasn’t so bad.
Sexy, sweet, funny, I’m happy I gave Best Friends With The Billionaire a chance.
