"Carpe Diem" is more than just a catchy phrase to Stacey Mallory. At least it was, until the near-fatal accident that took the use of her legs and changed her life forever. Stacey would do anything to dive once again into cool blue waters from a towering cliff, or feel the wind in her face as she opens up the throttle of her sleek, sporty motorcycle. To dance under the moonlight in the arms of a strong, sexy man. To escape her new reality, Stacey reinvents herself as Salienne Dulcette, the reclusive author of steamy erotic romances, and lives life vicariously through her characters. Writing about life isn't the same as living it, but until her miracle comes through, it's all she has. Johnny Connelly is loving life. His construction business is booming, he's surrounded by family and friends, and there's plenty of women willing to keep him company. So why does he feel like something's missing?
You can always count on Ms. Zanders to give you the perfect HEA for every story she writes, and Johnny was no exception.
We are introduced to Johnny in Celina and know him to be a bit of a player and a non-believer in the whole croie (soul mates) business even when he was a witness to his baby sister’s love story.
Stacey is a best-selling romance author who’s been leading a very secluded life after suffering a life changing/altering accident. She and Celina had been best friends since college and has finally accepted her offer of visiting. Celina promptly sets her up in her family’s mountain cabin where she can have some space and time to keep writing.
When an unexpected hunky house guest crashes her lovely hot tub soak things quickly get out of hand… or more like hands quickly get on things… but you know what I mean. Johnny can’t believe his eyes when he finds a naked red-headed Goddess in his mountain cabin and she seems to be exactly what he was waiting for.
After the best night of both their lives, Stacey kind of shuts everything down when she reveals her situation in a rather blunt way and her insecurities plus Johnny’s hot-headedness make it a sure recipe for miscommunication. What frustrated me was when Johnny finally pulls his head out of his butt and decides to actively pursue his croie, Stacey makes a decision that could risk everything. Being so self obsessed about the way she was and willing to risk so much made me want to shake some sense into her. And this was my main issue with this story, when everything was said and done, I kind of felt Stacey didn’t deserve Johnny’s complete devotion, I mean, she risked more than she could have ever imagine and this made it difficult for me to get 100% behind her,
Fortunately, as I said, Ms. Zanders will always give us the best outcomes ever and they get the HEA they deserve and more… I’m just not sure I’ll get over Stacey selfishness anytime soon, but even then, Johnny was a great read and I can’t wait to get my hands on Michael who’s waiting patiently for me in my kindle.
