When Emily Wayborn goes home to visit her mom while on hiatus from her hit TV show, she receives a voicemail from her former best friend, Amber. Though the two were once notorious party girls, they haven't spoken in years. Although the message might sound benign to anyone else, Amber uses a safe word that Emily recognizes, a word they always used to get out of sticky situations during their wild days. And what's more chilling than the voicemail: it turns out that Amber has gone missing.

Determined to track down her friend, Emily follows a chain of clues that lead her to the enigmatic billionaire Reeve Sallis, a hotelier known for his shady dealings and play boy reputation. Now, in order to find Amber, Emily must seduce Reeve to learn his secrets and discover the whereabouts of her friend. But as she finds herself more entangled with him, she finds she's drawn to Reeve for more than just his connection to Amber, despite her growing fear that he may be the enemy. When she's forced to choose where her loyalty lies, how will she decide between saving Amber and saving her heart?

This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence.

By LilyCaptivating!

I was mesmerised by the twists and turns in First Touch. It ends on a definite to be continued scene, a confronting moment that could well be a game changer. It’s never been a game, though, the premise of this story was always about truth. Everyone seems to be chasing it for different reasons at the same time as there’s a haunting connection or is it a coincidence. Yes, this book will make you question your thoughts, on the characters, their actions and their history.

Emily is answering an estranged friend’s coded call for help but has little to go on as to where she is nor what has happened. The only key she has is a man by the name of Reeve and she sets out to become acquainted with him. Emily is an actress, a woman who has played men before to suit her needs and will do whatever it takes to make sure her friend is safe.

Reeve is a player too and all of a sudden this play is looking a lot more complicated than Emily bargained for. He’s a hard character to crack, just when you think you have him worked out, he says or does something to upturn what you assumed. There’s something about him, he can’t be ignored, he is to be feared on several levels and yet none of this deters Emily enough to give up.

This is a dark suspenseful read, involving BDSM, hints of organised crime, murder, drugs and flashbacks to abusive attacks. The flashbacks were brutal but compassionately discussed within the dialogue. That said, it is dark and of course won’t be for people faint of heart.

I lost track of the number of times I highlighted a name, a scene or dialogue and added notes. Part was to play detective but mainly it was because I knew I would want to return to what I had read again. Of course, I have my theories yet even if I’m right, how it will play out in the next book I have no idea.

This has been my first time reading a book written by Laurelin Paige and if this is any indication of books I’ve been missing out on, there will be a few extra books being added to my TBR list!

Lily’s Rating: 5 Stars
