Nothing stands between a cursed witch and her quarry.

Macy Davenport has two weeks to purge the familial curse or she’ll suffer a sex-starved eternity. Finding a vampire strong enough to handle her rare dragon witch powers isn’t easy. But Doctor Death comes with a very high price and a string of complications.

Prince Dmitri Siysky, aka Doctor Death, doesn’t have time for the fiery dragon witch, even if her carnal dilemma offers interesting compensation. There’s an underground slave ring selling vampires and he’s been sent the witches responsible.

He expected trouble, but he never anticipated Macy.

This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Review Header

By SparklesHaving read a couple of books from Ms. Carnes (aside #1: I find the use of Carnes as a surname very telling, as in Spanish carne means meat…) I was expecting the story of a witch with a horniness curse looking for a vampire renowned for his prowess to help her get rid of said curse, to be a complete smut-fest.

I must confess that I was pleasantly surprised and at the same time a little bit disappointed that was not the case.

The story of Macy, a Dragon Witch who was unfortunate enough to be the recipient of a hereditary curse meant to drive her crazy with desire but unable to quench it unless she doesn’t mind killing her bed partners… unless said partners can’t really die… and this is where Dmitri, the undercover vampire prince comes into the equation. Now, I’m sure there’s a lot of information about the laws and regulations of supernatural beings in the previous books of this series, and while I didn’t quite catch everything that was going on, I didn’t really have to struggle to keep up either.

In spite of the short length of The Witch’s Concubine, the story was well developed and paced, though I wish there was more time to flesh out Macy and Dmitri’s relationship.

The fact that there was a lot more plot and story line than I was expecting meant I felt a little cheated… I was actually expecting something along the lines of Barrons bringing Mac back from the crazy sex thing (KMM’s Fever Series) , so when Macy’s curse was cured by a potion, it was kind of anticlimactic (I won’t lie, I was very disappointed by this development). That said, I still found Witch’s Concubine a hot little read and had a great time reading it. I’m not sure if Macy’s and Dmitri’s story is featured in the next installments or even if they’re mentioned, as all books in the Wicked Tales series are from different authors, but I wouldn’t mind reading more about them.

Sparkles’ Rating: 3.5 Stars.
