Take a chance and change your life…
College was supposed to be where Hannah’s hard work paid off, but the major in honors chemistry she’s been working towards since childhood is slipping away. Worse, she’s not sure she wants it anymore. Salvation comes from an unlikely place—a used bookstore and Ben, the passionate college senior who works there.
Ben’s trapped in a life mapped out for him. Trapped in a future career as a lawyer to make his father happy. Trapped pursuing a girl he doesn't even like because she fits into a world he doesn’t want, but can’t escape. But then he meets Hannah. And for the first time, he knows what it means to truly want something.
So he gives in to being her friend. Then to wanting her. Then to kissing her. And within the freedom of his impulsivity, both of their carefully planned lives begin to fall apart...
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This story is very NA… emphasis on the “N” as our main characters are Hannah, 18 and Ben, 21.
But you know what I loved about this book? These were not super mature kids, they didn’t have everything figured out as some other NA characters do these days, Ben is not a super confident man-whore with moves to rival the hottest H over 30. Hannah didn’t have her life figured out or was she ready to take the world by storm.
They weren’t immature annoying kids either. They were very age appropriate in their conflicts and decisions, in the way they acted and felt… I found it very refreshing.
While this is not a genre I prefer (as I left my teen years quite some time ago) I really enjoyed This Book Will Change your Life. For one, it’s a love story between a boy who works at a bookstore and the girl who falls in love with him. Ben loves to read and is a bit taken aback when Hannah never read anything just for fun, so he’s making it his mission to make her love books just as much as he does.
It’s also a story about standing up for yourself and your dreams, being true to that voice inside that’ll let you know when what you’re told to do, and what will make you happy, are not always the same thing.
In a nutshell: is it NA? Yes. Was it enjoyable? Also yes. If you’re in the mood to remember what that first grown-up love felt like, you should give this book a chance… it might not change your life, what it will certainly leave you with is a warm and fuzzy feeling.
