Book One in the Tattooed Series, releasing September 17th, 2015

Raelyn Jennings has survived the unthinkable. She’s been given a second chance to live, to breathe, to feel. Her ability to overcome such a traumatic hurdle has created armor around her heart. But beyond her shield is fear, a consuming deep one, of the unknown. Raelyn vows to herself that she’ll solely focus on the one constant in her life, her career as the CEO for a prestigious accounting firm.

Damien Heathman’s unrelenting determination has made him a powerful, respected man. He’s sexy and confident and utterly breathtaking. His dominance and strength is evident in every purposeful stride, every meaningful look, and every soft caress.

Raelyn has worked with Damien’s company, Heathman Enterprises, for many years, but they’ve never crossed paths—until now.
Damien’s presence fills a room. He steals Raelyn’s breath and sparks her broken heart back to life. Once Damien sets eyes on Raelyn, there is no turning back. He wants her, and he’ll stop at nothing to have her. Not even the dark secrets hidden behind his tattoos will stand in his way.

The chemistry is undeniable. The passion is palpable.

Can Damien convince Raelyn that he is worth the risk? Or will Raelyn allow her past to control her future, feeling the chance of another heartache is too great to bear?

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

By LilyA highly emotional start that had me stepping away from Tattooed Emotions for a moment or two. It wasn’t the triggers View Spoiler » it was the intensity of the writing that floored me. Once the drama subsides, the story style does a 360 and although not without drama and angst, it is definitely a different approach from the beginning.

“Raelyn is a successful business woman and the ultimate professional. Damian walks into Raelyn’s business with an agenda and manages to make her feel uncomfortable on a professional and personal level. She believes that love is a fantasy after being hurt by someone she trusted at a time when she needed him most and has been avoiding relationships ever since. Damien rattles her and gives her no room to maneuver herself out of this awkward situation.

It takes a major allegation concerning a trusted colleague to set her down a path of self doubt and distracts her to a point where Damian gets his chance to spend more time with her. The characters have different reasons to hide from the pain life throws at them and the story depicts their attempts to protect themselves from further hurt.

I struggled with both the beginning and the rest of the story for different reasons:
1- Beginning was tragic and didn’t let up
2- The rest of the book felt as if it was hell bent on making up for the tragic start.

Dealing with a subject that is very real for a lot of people requires a delicate balance and the author handled this well. So although this was handled well, I found the combination of the challenging aspects clouded my enjoyment of the book. Normally when a book is challenging, I like to go in blind, in this case awareness of the challenges I encountered may enhance the experience for others. I struggled with how to rate this book and my rating is not in keeping with many others that have given it 5 stars, so keep that in mind when considering if this book is for you. A note for readers, this one ends on a cliffy!

Lily Rating: Rounded up to 3 stars
