Mike was supposed to be Mellie Albrict’s forever boyfriend. Hell, she’d even imagined marrying him once. After her family abandoned her, he’d been the one to make her believe that love didn’t always end with betrayal. But they’d both been so very wrong.
With the rest of their friends practically family, they formed an uneasy pact. One Mellie relies on when things get rough. And when her father resurfaces in Reverence, forcing emotions long since buried to the surface, Mellie runs to the one man who’s never left her even after the spectacular destruction of their love.
Friendship isn’t enough for Mike Starr. In fact, he’d give his left nut to get Mellie to give him a second chance. Devastated at the idea his illness meant leaving her, he'd pushed her away to make it easier on her if he didn't survive. The fight for his life had been hard, but fighting to convince her they're worth another shot might be harder, especially since he still hasn’t explained the reason for his erratic behavior surrounding their break-up. Determined to be her rock when a trip to her hometown reveals more than either expected, he searches for a way to prove he won't mishandle her heart a second time.

Men and their knucklehead ideas
Poor Misti…she asks me (because I think she feels sorry for me) to read and review her stories and I of course reply “Sure Misti, I’d love to read your story…” knowing that I don’t normally like NA or high levels of angst. This series sucks me in every time. I can’t not know what’s happening in town, who’s with who and what’s going down. So poor Misti gets my review solely based on my addiction to needing to know the answers.
So, in Obsession we have Mellie and Mike. We met the two of them in Lola and Leo’s story. Funny, I only realised as I’m typing this that the twins (Mellie and Lola) get with someone with the same initial as their first names…M and M, L and L. Anyways… so Mellie is a sad little poppet who is on track to ruining her life. She’s a floozy who sleeps around to forget about her one true love, Mike (ANGST OVERLOAD #1).
Mike, the knucklehead, pushed Mellie away when he found out he had a life threatening illness. Instead of telling her (ANGST OVERLOAD #2) he decides to let her think the worst of him. She decides to hurt him by doing something stupid, ignorant and hurtful (ANGST X 1000 OVERLOAD #3) and things go kaput.
The second half of the story has a lot less angst and a lot more…wrap your legs around me I want to be inside you… action. I know this couple had three years to make up for, but it was a lot of sex. I can imagine you’re all nodding your heads thinking…right on, sexathon!! IT WAS A LOT OF SEX!!!
So even though I gave it 3 stars, I did enjoy it. Mike is a sweet guy who really cares about Mellie. He never tried to have another relationship in the 3 years they are apart. Mellie on the other hand…hussy. Good thing she eventually woke up to herself. A few surprises are thrown in towards the end that I didn’t see coming but helped the story come to a nice conclusion.
Misti my lovely, if you have the heart to share your stories with me in the future, know that you have attained your goal of hair-pulling, angst-ridden, teeth grinding torture and I can’t wait for more.
