Ever had one of those days? Alina Lyons is having one. Everything keeps falling apart and going wrong. Just when she thinks it couldn't get worse, it does. After a case of mistaken identity and a broken heart, she finds herself questioning the things she thought she knew. She wonders who she can turn to or trust anymore.
An unlikely bond with her former best friend's ex, Ryan Wilcox, sends her life in a new direction. He offers her a place to stay while she gets her life back on track. His friendship is exactly what she's been missing—what she's been needing. Alina's never felt this alive. As time goes by, the dynamic of their relationship becomes more than either of them expected. A few innocent kisses could lead them in a new direction, but are they prepared for what's on the other side?
Only one way to find out.

This was a nice read. It’s the story of a boy and a girl who are thrown together after unfortunate events and build a lovely relationship.
Well, said events are kind of OTT, as in too convenient to my opinion. Alina has been dating Drew for 6 months, and Ryan has been dating Victoria, Alina’s best friend and roommate, for the last month. After Alina and Ryan almost get it on in the shower thinking they were with their other halves; they realize both of them had been kind of dumped at the same time. They go to investigate this coincidence and realize Drew and Victoria really were getting it on and had been for the last 4 months.
Alina has no boyfriend, no home and had just quit her job. She is in a bind, to put it mildly. This is where Ryan steps in and offers her a place to stay while she figures things out. Ryan was a total sweetie. He is the kind of guy you want for a boyfriend, loyal, nice, considerate, and tattooed, who plays in a band while working construction. I mean, what those hands can do… *spacing while day-dreaming of meeting a real life Ryan*…
They are there for each other while they mend their bruised hearts/egos, and they realize just how well they get along, and how much they enjoy each other’s company. Deeper feelings soon start to blossom, right along an attraction they find hard to fight.
As I said, I really liked Unexpected, it was a mostly angst-free, lovely romance with two people growing to care for the other. Their families were a nice touch in the story, as were Willa, Alina’s new friend, and Brent, Ryan’s brother’s boyfriend. The catty friend attitude did throw me for a loop as it was so out-there she could have been an extra-terrestrial being.
I hope there’s a next book, as Alina’s brother and Willa would make an excellent story/couple.
