The men of the Twisted Steel custom motorcycle shop are great with their hands... and they're not afraid to get dirty.
PJ is exactly the kind of woman Twisted Steel owner Asa Barrons doesn't need. The last thing he wants to do is mix business with pleasure, and PJ has some of the best custom detailing he's ever seen. But the chemistry between them won't be denied, and soon he's introducing her to a whole new world in the bedroom, pushing her far beyond anything she's ever experienced. PJ finds she can't get enough, but how far is too far before he consumes her completely?
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Hot damn! This read was scorching!
Opening Up was my first book by Lauren Dane and let me tell you, right now, it won’t be the last… I’m actually going to ask Spice as soon as I finish typing this where should I start with Ms. Dane’s bibliography.
I really enjoyed this story. While it’s completely about Asa and PJ developing their relationship (no kidnappings, drive-bys or psycho-stalkers of any kind) it wasn’t slow paced.
I loved how PJ was her own person in spite of her family, her age and people’s opinion in general. She was sure of what she wanted, went for it and was not apologetic.
Asa was a dreamy, hot, dirty alpha male. Experienced, tattooed, built and with a filthy, filthy mouth.
They meet at an event and from the second they see each other their chemistry is off-the-charts caliente.
Unfortunately for PJ and us readers, Asa is a tiny, little bit hung up on their age difference (her 25 to his 37). But honestly, PJ is by no means immature, and Asa, well, he leads the life of a bachelor, he pays the bills, is a home owner and a successful businessman but his personal life is not that profound or “grown up”… so I was kind of bugged by this attitude of his.
“I like riding crops. I like to use them on the backs of a woman’s thighs and her ass.”
“You made that announcement about crops because you’ve concluded I wouldn’t like that? Or that I’d be shocked and run the other way?”
“Like crops? I don’t know. I’ve never been cropped. Cropped? Is that what it’s called?
“You’re too young. I’m thirty-seven years old. More than that, those were really rough thirty-seven years. You’re not that”
She stood. “So your cock is going to send me to dirty hell?”
I wouldn’t mind being sent there by Asa either…
So yeah, I liked PJ’s attitude and her threats of bodily harm were pretty close to my heart.
“If you tell me you’re married or with someone and you fucked me, I’m going to punch you in the balls”
I liked how when Asa finally gets on with the program, they have time to grow as a couple, and while I l-o-v-e when the alpha has the girl moved in by their second encounter, I greatly enjoyed that this story was a little more… at an actual human speed.
What I did not enjoy, and the half star I took was because of this, was PJ’s family drama. Her big brother’s attitude was crap. Being the way she is (which is not that far away from myself… I think that’s why I love her so much and we share our name too!) she should have told him to f off way before she did… and don’t get me started on the father and uncle… I think this was way OTT for the reason behind it. Or maybe it wasn’t, people can really be that shitty… I don’t know, to me it was kind of absurd.
In spite of this mild annoyance, I found this a fantastic read, Asa and his pierced man meat are going on my sexy-book-boyfriend-top-list.
Sparkles’ Rating: 4.5 Stars
I have to admit, I have a fan girl thing going on for Lauren Dane, and I’ve had it for awhile. When Sparkles told me she was reading an ARC for the first book in her new series I crossed my fingers and requested my own copy. Obviously, that finger crossing thing worked.
They stood there not speaking, letting that chemistry between them build. Again it ebbed and flowed like that every time they were near each other. Playing with fire. He knew it. Suspected she did too. Which made it even better.
Asa owns a custom shop dealing in motorcycles and cars. PJ comes from racing royalty and her family owns a tire dynasty. She also happens to be incredibly talented at creating custom paint jobs. Problem is, she’s quite a bit younger than Asa. She also comes from a fairly screwed up family, racing royalty or not.
Together with the way she essentially told him yes he was bossy and that was okay with her but when he went over the line she’d slap him back, only made him want her more. Strong, powerful women were hot as fuck, and this one got to him in ways that he’d be nervous about. Later.
I loved PJ. She was strong, comfortable in her own skin, and unwilling to take crap from men, including Asa. I loved how she was willing to forgive Asa’s frequent screwups, but she made him work for it. My only issue with PJ was her Daddy issues. Her Dad and the other men in her family were douchenozzles and the PJ who took no crap was a totally different PJ than the one that kept letting her family crap on her. She should have kicked most of her family to the curb long before she did.
You’re ridiculous because you’re so sexy and hot. An alpha male who rides motorcycles and drives a cool car. You’re covered in ink and muscles; you’ve got tall, dark, and dangerous down pat.
Asa took a bit for me to warm up to but he won me over. He was sexy in an unconventional way with his tats and nose ring. I’m all about the tats, the nose ring kind of threw me, but as usual, I got over myself. He did have some moments where I wanted to throw my ipad but the good news was the man could grovel. It was dang refreshing and for me at least, completely exonerated his sins.
Opening Up is a relationship driven story and I haven’t read one of those in awhile so I was a little hesitant as I tend to lean towards action. Speaking of action, if you haven’t read LD’s Cascadia Wolves series yet, I highly recommend it. Although I did find myself wishing at times that some kind of action outside of the bedroom would happen, overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Truly, the chemistry between Asa and PJ was off the freaking charts and that in itself was worth the time spent reading.
