He's going above and beyond the call of duty...
Avery Yeung's biological clock just went off early. Thanks to her family's medical history, she's running out of time to get knocked up. And the only guy within donating distance? Her overprotective-and irritatingly hot-best friend.
So clearly she needs an anonymous donor...
Anonymous donor?Over Sheriff Drew Flannery's dead body. While daddyhood will never be in the cards for a man with his past, Drew won't let Avery shop for a "popsicle pop." He'll do what's right for his best friend by doing his best friend. But only if they do it properly.
But there's nothing "proper" about it.
Between the bed, the kitchen counter, and against his squad car, Avery and Drew are having the hottest sex ever. They can't get enough of it-or each other. And without knowing it, they've crossed the one line that could ruin their friendship forever...
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Well, this story had promise. Avery and Drew had been best friends since childhood, being there and supporting each other through loss and hardships.
When Avery found out her window of safely getting pregnant would be limited because of a health condition, with no actual man in her life, she decides to do it on her own. How hard could it be to be a single mother? Lots of women do it.
Let’s just say Drew is not real happy about his dearest friend having some random dude’s baby, so he offers to be the donor. But of course, if they’re going to make a baby, they are going to do it the right way, the natural way… the hot, naughty, fun way.
Drew is known by his player ways, this comes from watching his own father self-destruct through alcohol after the loss of Drew’s mother, so he never spent time with any woman enough to let feelings develop. He never thought he could be a good father figure with those kind of genes. He and Avery agree they’ll have sex, he’ll be there for her as always, just friends, and he’ll be kind of a cool uncle to the baby, whenever he or she comes out.
As we find out, both of them have been repressing an attraction for the other, so when they come together, it’s over the top hot.
Now, I’ve come to realize that I have a type of selective narcolepsy, and by this I mean, long ass descriptions and never ending monotonous inner musings put me the fuck to sleep. Both characters inner monologues tended to the long type that at times got a bit tedious to me, so I have to confess to skimming more than a little bit.
Another issue I had with the story was Avery’s family. She is half Chinese on her father’s side, with her paternal grandparents being stereotypically closed minded. My issue is that while being supposedly against their son marrying an American, and carrying on that same attitude towards their granddaughters, they spoke perfect English. Let’s just say that if someone is so set against the cultural mush up, they won’t be interested in speaking the language. This I know for a fact, so I felt the whole part related to this aspect of the story was a little overdone.
While the interaction between the characters was fast paced (while they were talking and you know interacting) the story didn’t quite flow evenly, and the back and forth and lack of communication between them drove me a little towards aggression against my poor kindle.
Unexpectedly hot and naughty, at times the story fell flat to me so it took away from the overall enjoyment. Still I’m curious how Avery’s sister, Alexis, story will play out and wouldn’t mind checking it out.
