He takes control...and gives all kinds of pleasureIn the space of about a second, successful restaurateur Dane Bergman has gone from millionaire playboy to daddy. Now he's the sole guardian of a very adorable and willful four-year-old child, and he's counting on his executive assistant, Pamela Atwater, to save his ass. Even if it means bringing her along on a month-long ocean-side retreat...

Pamela Atwater prides herself on being the perfect assistant. Whatever Dane wants or needs, she's there - pretending to ignore Dane's golden charm and drop-dead gorgeousness. On vacation, however, Pamela sees a side of Dane she never imagined. And it's a side that tempts her to cross the line between professional and personal. But is one month enough time to prove to Dane that his perfect assistant might just be his perfect match?

This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

By SparklesI’m still undecided on how to rate this book. While I liked the storyline of the anti-commitment business mogul suddenly being the sole parent to a 4 year-old girl he didn’t know existed, I struggled to connect with the main characters.

We have Dane, the aforementioned hot guy whose only deep relationship with the opposite sex is his executive assistant Pam. When he is presented with his surprise daughter (it was almost literally: “surprise! You have a daughter! And her mom died so she has to stay with you now”) he realizes he is completely unequipped to deal with it, so he enlists Pam’s help to let little Danielle settle in her new circumstances.

As Dane keeps calling on Pam at the most absurd hours and the most ridiculous of situations, she finally puts her foot down and tells him that he needs to bond with the girl. She convinces him to take a month long vacation on his private island getaway. In a complete panic, Dane makes Pam go along.

Well, you can guess the rest, the spending together time in a more relaxed and non-business related setting finally breaks through their control and they… you know, have some grown up fun.

There was a lot of mind changing about the relationship so the back and forth was a bit tiring. Also, I felt the little girl’s attitude and actions to be somewhat unrealistic, maybe if she was 7 or 8, but I don’t know if a 4 year old would have reacted that way in general.

As I said, I found it hard to connect with Dane and Pam, Dane was an asshat most of the time, and his insistence on making the food he wanted made me want to throw things at his head constantly. Pam… I don’t know, she just exasperated me for some reason.

This was a quick read. The writing was good and I really liked the storyline. Sadly I can’t say it completely worked for me.
