Trouble just walked into Nicholas Rixey's tattoo parlor. Becca Merritt is warm, sexy, wholesome--pure temptation to a very jaded Nick. He's left his military life behind to become co-owner of Hard Ink Tattoo, but Becca is his ex-commander's daughter. Loyalty won't let him turn her away. Lust has plenty to do with it too.
With her brother presumed kidnapped, Becca needs Nick. She just wasn't expecting to want him so much. As their investigation turns into all-out war with an organized crime ring, only Nick can protect her. And only Becca can heal the scars no one else sees.
Desire is the easy part. Love is as hard as it gets. Good thing Nick is always up for a challenge..
Take a Hot Ex-Military Guy and add in several of his equally hot former team mates. Throw in a damsel in distress and a huge helping of bad guys. Stir in some sexy times and a sprinkling of humor and you have a pretty dang decent book. There were some ingredients that made parts of this recipe hard to swallow like some really improbable plot lines but overall an okay read for a quiet night.
I’m a sucker for a damaged alpha guy and Nicholas Rixey had damaged written all over him The fact that the person who screwed up his life was our heroines Dad just made this book more interesting (that was also one of the improbable plot line thingies – most would have told her “Hell No!”). Becca, our damsel in distress, at first seemed kind of weak, but then you realized she was a lot stronger than she gave herself credit for.
It did take waaaaay too long to get to the smexy parts. Even the characters thought it was too long.
“I’m horny. And you’re hot as hell. And we’re clearly trying to be good. Although, I’m not sure why, exactly. And, anyway, I don’t want you to move. Because I like the feel of you. And I-“
That doesn’t mean that Nick wasn’t a dirty talker. He was and he was very good at it.
“Because I want to make you hold onto that bag while I bury myself in you so hard and so deep you don’t know your own name.”
When they finally got there, it was hot. Then they backed off for a bit which was maddening. I really hope the next book doesn’t try that same drawn out plot line. A couple other issues I had were that although this couple had a HFN ending, there were a lot of loose ends. It all felt cliffhangerish and I hate cliff hangers. I am going to read the next book since I want to know if my running theory is correct.
