One dare and he'll lose his heart... Determined to qualify for the fire department's grueling physical, former marine Jessie Sullivan never gives up, despite the pins in her leg. The last thing she needs is a tall, incredibly hot action movie star sharing her gym...and who makes her want to trade in her reps for some sexy physical activity. Of the naked kind. Blake Johnston is more than just a Big Screen Sex Machine, and he's willing to prove it. Especially to a spirited and sexy ex-marine like Jessie. But when a harmless dare leads to sizzling fireworks, Jessie and Blake's workout ends up generating some serious heat between the sheets. And it's more than Jessie could have imagined. Much, much more. But flings don't last forever. And in two weeks, Jessie will have to say goodbye to her red-hot Christmas fantasy...
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I liked the premise of this story: a female former Marine trying to get back on her feet after surviving an IED explosion and the loss of a teammate. Left with physical and emotional scars she is nothing like her former self.
In comes the action movie star, who’s struggling with issues of his own. Tired of being seen just a handsome face and a hot body he needs to turn around his career path.
Jesse and Blake meet in her family’s resort’s gym. She is preparing to get into the Fire Department, he needs to start buffing up before his next film.
They both feel an attraction, Jesse is closed off, she doesn’t feel much like the woman she used to be, and is definitely nothing like the starlets and models that Blake has been seen with. Blake on his part feels he must focus on changing his career and what he is willing to give he feels is not good enough for a woman like Jesse.
They decide to get into a hot holiday fling that will get each of them what they need from the other, and nothing more.
Yeah, right. As usual, feelings change, secrets come out and everything goes to hell in a basket.
As I said, I was very invested after reading the blurb for this book, but the story didn’t really pan out for me. It certainly lacked on the red hot part (I would say lukewarm at best) and even with a very emotionally charged subject, I didn’t really connect with the characters.
This was just an ok read for me, maybe my expectations were too high, but I was left wanting for more.
